An Evening With The SOO Line.
By TWE • Jul 12th, 2009 • Category: New Photos, RailfanOn my Saturday evening trip to the yard, I stopped down to the SOO Line as always and was just in time to see two engines backing into the WSOR yard to pick up a few things. The light is great there during that time of day so I hung around to get what I knew would be some awesome photos.
I had to wait a LONG time (30-45 minutes) but it was a beautiful day and I got to poke around and take some other non-train photographs while I waited, so it was fun either way.

Gettin’ some things together in the WSOR yard.

This truly is my favorite time of day.

What summer looks like.

I get darker every day. (My elbow)

Getting some paperwork done.

At this point the crew took off and left the engines running. I had no idea what was going on so I hung around just in case a replacement crew showed up. After a little while I took off since it was getting late and figured that I would just have to miss this one.
The next morning I rolled down to the yard as usual and I could hear the low rumble of the engines in the distance and could see them through the trees. I was astonished that they were still there, in the same place, still running. I asked a friend for some info and it turns out the crew gets shuttled back to their location outside of Madison and comes back for the train the next day. Kinda crazy, but I took the opportunity to get some more shots.

Peek-a-boo!

Of course, I did end up missing it when it finally pulled out later in the day, but it was cool to be able to spend so much time with some cool SOO engines.
Listen to me! Total rail nerd. But that’s okay, it was bound to happen. Maybe “railfan.thiswayeast.com” is in order? Haha we all knew it was coming eventually.
Hopefully I can get some more photos up soon, I’ve been stockpiling so I have a lot in the wings, waiting. Summer is always so busy so I just have to squeeze stuff in where I can.
I’m going to California in the middle of August to visit my hometown and some of our old stomping grounds. I’m super excited for that and I know when I come back I’m going to be swamped with photos, so hopefully I can get a few things up before then!
As always, stay tuned!
